About SSDS Baramulla
Introduction
Shri Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Baramulla is a historic socio-religious organization established in 1915 by the Sanatani community of Baramulla, Kashmir. The Sabha is dedicated to preserving Sanatan Dharma, managing temples, and serving the community through social, cultural, and religious initiatives.
SSDS Baramulla stands as a collective effort to protect, revive, and celebrate the spiritual heritage of Sanatan Dharma in Baramulla. It began with a simple idea: bring people together, preserve the places that matter, and create a space where faith, culture, and community can grow side by side.
What started as a small initiative has grown into a trusted religious, cultural, and social organization that supports sacred site restoration, educational upliftment, and welfare activities across the district. Today, SSDS Baramulla is a pillar for families, devotees, and pilgrims seeking guidance, connection, and meaningful engagement with their roots.
where cultural memory lives on through ages
History & Legacy
SSDS Baramulla was formed in response to a shared need: revive the spiritual landscape of Baramulla and reconnect people with their age-old traditions. Over the years, the organization has restored heritage spaces, supported cultural events, and brought together devotees who once felt disconnected or dispersed.
The legacy of SSDS is rooted in resilience. Despite changing times and challenges faced by the local Hindu community, the organization continues to rebuild, preserve, and inspire through collective seva. Its story is one of devotion, unity, and the determination to keep sacred traditions alive for future generations.
Perched near the sacred Ramghat on the banks of the Jhelum River, the Shiv Temple at Ramghat is a historically rich sanctuary revered for centuries by Kashmiri Pandits. With origins celebrated in local lore and texts like the Kotitirtha Mahatmya, this temple stands as a testament to Kashmir’s deep spiritual roots.
This is a religious, social and cultural organization of the Hindus of Baramulla District in general and those of the Baramulla Town (situated within the Municipal Area) in particular, professing Sanatan Dharma. The Sabha to be called hereinafter shall in no case, amalgamate with any other Sabha; but will cooperate with those in religious, social and cultural activities.
